Maharashtra Reports Crop losses in 1 Billion Hectors -Centre urged to release Rs.1 lakh crore Farm Package
Dated -20 October 2020
Massive rain and flooding have reported more than 50 lives and historical crisis caused by this unprecedented climate change in all part of Maharashtra as out of all the 140 lakh hectares of crops in Maharashtra, about 120 lakh hectares of soybean, paddy, maize, cotton, sorghum, Turi and sugarcane have been completely destroyed due to cloudburst and incessant rains. The crisis has caused a loss of at least Rs 150 lakh crore and has affected over 80 lakh farmers.
Maharashtra's agricultural and rural economic system has collapsed due to the historical crisis caused by this unprecedented climate change. Therefore, in a statement, Kishor Tiwari, President of the Maharashtra Farmers' Mission, has demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi visit Maharashtra and immediately give a special package of at least Rs 1 lakh crore to the farmers of Maharashtra. Corona has been rampant in Maharashtra since April. Similarly, due to a sudden thoughtless lockdown by the central government, the state's income has come to zero and the state is in a huge financial crisis.
In such a situation, the central government was expected to provide a relief package, but the centre gave a pumpkin. Kishor Tiwari also alleged that Maharashtra had given 90 per cent of the funds to the Prime Minister's Covid Care Fund but Modi had left same Maharashtra in the lurch. If such an unprecedented future of 120 lakh hectares of crops had been destroyed in Bihar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Agriculture Minister Narendra Tomar would have made dozens of visits and announced aid packages. This question has also been raised by Tiwari in his statement.
When Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a package of Rs 20 lakh crore, it was thought that the farmers would be given loan waivers like industry, but she left the farmers in the lurch. State-owned banks have disbursed only 30 per cent of the target peak loans this year. Therefore, in order to overcome this unprecedented agricultural crisis and to save the suicidal farmers of Maharashtra, he has demanded a complete waiver of agricultural loans and a package of the assistance of at least Rs 1 lakh crore. Tiwari has appealed to the Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Prakash Javdekar and Piyush Goyal to seek help.
